Goal Celebration /facepalm

A pretty nice goal, but not such a nice ending...This is just speculation, but I'm assuming that the glass had been broken earlier, and they hadn't replaced the pane yet.

Cyber-criminal Left In Charge of Prison Computer Network

by ska5fe at 04:33 PM Share your /facepalm story

From Slashdot:

Cyber-criminal Left In Charge of Prison Computer Network

An official in a prison in England decided it would a smashing idea to let a criminal (locked up for stealing money through the Internet) set up a TV system in the prison.  To quote the article, "He was left unguarded with unfettered access to the system".  The result?  He didn't shut down the entire system and leave a trail of passwords that took a specialist company to figure out.  Just kidding.  That's exactly what he did.

Wanton Pig Slaughter /Facepalm

by ska5fe at 09:59 AM Share your /facepalm story

Way back in the spring of 2009, which is an eon ago in Internet time, Swine Flu (Now called H1N1) was all the rage. During that time a story broke about how Egypt decided to just go ahead and kill every single pig in the entire country, just to be safe from a disease that they were most likely to catch from another human, NOT A PIG. Turns out, that might not have been such a great idea after all. Welcome to the concept of 'cause' and 'effect', Egypt.

Execution Fail

by ska5fe at 12:04 PM Share your /facepalm story

An executioner trying to end Romell Broom's life failed because they couldn't find a suitable vein with which to inject the drugs intended to kill him.

Even though he's a convicted rapist and murderer, I can't help but feel a little sorry for the guy. I'm sure he's made peace with the fact that he's moments from death, and to have even that denied him was probably actually a bummer at that point.

On a lighter note, I'm not sure if they later just bludgeoned him to death or if he's still alive. I'm kind of curious now about how this story ends.

No Arms? Sorry, You Can't Cash Checks

by ska5fe at 11:15 AM Share your /facepalm story

This story is stunning in it's ridiculousness.

Steve Valdez, a man born without arms, is told he cannot cash a check at a Bank of America in Tampa without providing a thumbprint. Maybe they don't understand basic anatomy, but it usually follows that if you don't have any arms, you probably don't have any thumbs, either.
