Spell Check Facepalm

by vipergtsrz at 08:48 PM Share your /facepalm story

It's obvious that every human makes mistakes once in a while, but it seems like they guy who made this sign was one too many beers over the allowed limit at the sign making factory. Every word on this highway sign is misspelled except "exit". That's quite a feat if you ask me. It's even more impressive that it went through multiple hands before it was actually put up on the highway.

  • Person types text into a computer to make the sign
  • Company that makes the signs for the government reviews them before sending it out
  • Whoever actually creates the physical sign probably had to look at it to make it
  • The sign arrives at a company and probably gets loaded onto a truck to get hung up on the highway
  • The person physically hanging the sign up probably had to look at it.

Just based on the assumptions above, that's at LEAST 5 people that saw this sign before it was put up on the highway.

Either no one cared, no one read it, or no one knew how to spell those words. Any way you cut it, it's a /facepalm.

"I swear no one will see this picture baby..."

by lester at 09:35 PM Share your /facepalm story

"... now let me just post it on the Internet where it will be safe from all those prying eyes."

Let's review this story:

Step 1:  Take family picture.

Step 2:  Put family picture on Christmas cards, a "few" social networking sites, and your mommy blog.

Step 3:  Be surprised when it appears somewhere else.

Step 4:  Profit?

If you don't want something getting out into public knowledge and use, don't post it on the Internet.  In case you haven't guessed, my name isn't Lester.

At least a big, something gross wasn't Photoshopped in it... yet.

Move along. Nothing to see here.

by vipergtsrz at 07:30 AM Share your /facepalm story

It's funny when you see signs saying something isn't there. It just makes you want to go in and see even more. I'm sure the cops would pass right over this lovely door if they saw it.

I don't know what they were thinking when they made this sign and put it up on the door.

/facepalm for stupidity

FOX copyright violation

by vipergtsrz at 09:31 PM Share your /facepalm story

A couple months ago, I started watching the TV series Bones on hulu. I wanted to see what it was about and after watching the first few episodes, I decided I liked it and ended up watching all four seasons. After I finished watching the last episode, I wanted to see if FOX had any extras on their website about the show so I went there to check out their website.

I went to the Recap page to see if I had missed any episodes and what did I find on the left hand side of the web page? I saw an image of a handgun that was taken from a stock photography site and never paid for! For those of you that don't know, when an image is taken illegally from a stock photo site, it usually has a watermark of some kind on it. In this case, I have highlighted the watermark on the gun image (taken from FOX's site) to the right so you can see.

Now as a web designer/programmer myself, I understand that this is something that could happen to anyone. It's normal to use a stolen stock photo for a design mock up and then after the design is approved, you buy the real one. Sometimes people forget to buy the real one and this happens. The irony of this whole thing is the fact that FOX, along with every other major TV station, goes into a hissy whenever someone else "steals" their copyrighted material on places like youtube or other video sites.

I think because FOX gets so pissed about this kind of stuff, the stock photo company that they took this from (It looks like istockphoto.com) should sue them for a bunch of money. Stick it to the man!

Funny sign

by vipergtsrz at 11:24 PM Share your /facepalm story

I am currently traveling in Vietnam with my wife in the process of adopting our first child. While here, I have seen a lot of very funny signs with poor translations or just funny sounding. This is probably the funniest sign I've seen. How can something be 100% natural and latex at the same time? Is there anything natural in latex at all?

There have been some really good signs like "Long Dong" and "Phuc Phuc" that strike me as hilarious. It's really fun to walk around a different country and see all the crazy signs that don't mean what they think it means in other languages.

 *EDIT*

It has come to my attention that I am the stupid one here. Latex can indeed be natural. The /facepalm in this post is my stupidity.
