Lil Monkey /facepalm

by vipergtsrz at 10:55 AM Share your /facepalm story

So I guess a new doll showed up on the Costco store shelves that was "politically incorrect" and people started complaining about it so they had to pull it.

While I'm not one to get on the "pollitically correct" bandwagon, I kind of agree with them. I mean look at that doll. It's an African American baby girl with a headband that says "Lil' Monkey". Honestly people. No one saw this as offensive? The doll went from design to production to packaging to the store shelves and no one thought it was in the least bit offensive?

The company that produced this doll said "We don’t think in that way. We don’t operate in that kind of thinking. We have a really diverse family-operated company that’s been around for 28 years.". Come on.

Vice President /facepalm

by vipergtsrz at 02:20 PM Share your /facepalm story

It seems like Joe Biden (our current Vice President) doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut when he should.

According to this story from Yahoo, Mr. Vice Preseident accidentally spilled the beans about the top secret location of the bunker that the VP goes to when there is an attack on the US and his life is in danger. I wonder how many other top secret nuggets of information Joe has for the public to find out. While every human can and will make mistakes, some mistakes are more costly than others.

I'm glad that the Obama administration can poke fun at him and take it lightly. I think the government holds too many secrets anyway :)

Cellphone /facepalm

by vipergtsrz at 03:14 PM Share your /facepalm story

Everyone hates "that guy" that never turns off their cell phone and distracts everyone around them. It happens at the movie theater, in a meeting, or any other event where silence is preferred. Some people just don't seem to understand that they should put their phone on vibrate when they are in a place that it shouldn't be ringing. I found the video below on Engadet and thought it was a huge /facepalm.

As Engadet points out, the real /facepalm is the guy at the end answers his phone and then walks out to talk to the person who called him. I bet the person who called him was watching the press conference and wanted to see if he had his ringer on or not. Then Gibbs owned the guy by making fun of his suit.

Is it really that hard to turn your cellphone ringer off?

Those Silly Political Lawn Signs

by ska5fe at 02:22 AM Share your /facepalm story

Chicago has a cliché phrase that goes something like this:  'We have two seasons here in Chicago: Winter and Construction' (while I'm sure this quaint colloquilism can be applied to just about every city north of the 40th parallel, I grew up in Chicago, so let's just pretend that it only applies here).  While the phrase itself is an exaggeration, there is certainly an element of truth to it.  I've personally sat in many 2-3 hour traffic jams due to construction that would have otherwise taken a quarter of the time.  As a result, I've been afforded plenty of opportunity to stare wistfully at those orange strip-ed horses that accompany 100% of all construction projects.  Which is why, this past local election, I took note of one particular candidate's lawn sign (pictured).  The sign, as you can tell, is an obvious reference to the aforementioned construction horses.

Now, I work in marketing full time, so perhaps I'm just more accutely aware of brand image, but it just baffles me that this gentlemen would willingly choose to associate himself with something that all Chicago drivers have been frustrated by.  As Highway Commissoner he likely could have chosen any number of images that would subconsciously leave a better impression on people.  Wheels, the painted stripes that designate lanes, or just black asphalt.  I just came up with that stuff off the top of my head, and all of those ideas would have differentiated himself from the typical droll signs that are used.  Mr. Muehlfelt, I salute you with a /facepalm.

How to drag your country backwards

by vipergtsrz at 07:18 AM Share your /facepalm story

If anyone is interested in how to quickly drag your country backwards in technology and economy, listen to these guys. As stated here, the Samajwadi Party in India thinks the best course of action to move their country ahead is by taking English out of all schools and stop using computers.

I'm not sure what goes through the heads of these guys. They claim that taking English and computers out of education will make a lot more jobs. How could anything think that is true?
