"I swear no one will see this picture baby..."

by lester at 09:35 PM Share your /facepalm story

"... now let me just post it on the Internet where it will be safe from all those prying eyes."

Let's review this story:

Step 1:  Take family picture.

Step 2:  Put family picture on Christmas cards, a "few" social networking sites, and your mommy blog.

Step 3:  Be surprised when it appears somewhere else.

Step 4:  Profit?

If you don't want something getting out into public knowledge and use, don't post it on the Internet.  In case you haven't guessed, my name isn't Lester.

At least a big, something gross wasn't Photoshopped in it... yet.

Cyber-cheating gone wrong

by lester at 09:32 PM Share your /facepalm story

Well, not wrong so much as public.  Very, very public.

My soon-to-be wife was never into gaming as I was.  In fact, she never plays any games on the computer at all, including solitaire.  I consider myself fortunate because I know the types of guys that are out there, at least as long as they are on the other end of a Ventrilo connection, not that I would worry so much about her cheating on me.  But the unknown and mysterious has a great allure and wandering minds will wander.  The key is bringing yourself back down to earth in a hurry, or as I like to call it "watching the skirts walk around at lunch and then head back up to the office".  Aside - I love the summer.

I found this nice little advice column with an article concerning the very topic of cyber-cheating.  Seems the wife thinks the husband is spending a little too much time alone with a little hussy but the little hussy won't spend any time in a group with her and the husband is giving her the "quality time" she used to get, or something to that effect.  Of course she never really mentions anything she has done to help the relationship become, and stay, strong and healthy.  Maybe if she went out and bought a swing, some handcuffs, a little leather and latex, she wouldn't be in this situation to begin with.

Epeen points to anyone who can tell me how to say "game over" in Klingon.  Super epeen points if you can tell me how to say any of the famous lines from Duke Nukem including "Vapourware".

Macbook Wheel

by vipergtsrz at 10:49 AM Share your /facepalm story

Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a big fan of Apple in general. I could go on and on about why I don't like Apple, but this isn't the time or place for that. Anyway, I saw a funny parody from the onion about a new product coming from apple called the "Macbook Wheel". Here it is...

Now while this is funny in and of itself, the real humor and /facepalm comes when a blogger on the web writes a post about the macbook wheel coming out! He must have seen this onion video and actually believed it was true.  I guess I wouldn't put it past Apple to come out with a product that stupid. We all know the Apple fan boys would probably buy it anyway.

FOX copyright violation

by vipergtsrz at 09:31 PM Share your /facepalm story

A couple months ago, I started watching the TV series Bones on hulu. I wanted to see what it was about and after watching the first few episodes, I decided I liked it and ended up watching all four seasons. After I finished watching the last episode, I wanted to see if FOX had any extras on their website about the show so I went there to check out their website.

I went to the Recap page to see if I had missed any episodes and what did I find on the left hand side of the web page? I saw an image of a handgun that was taken from a stock photography site and never paid for! For those of you that don't know, when an image is taken illegally from a stock photo site, it usually has a watermark of some kind on it. In this case, I have highlighted the watermark on the gun image (taken from FOX's site) to the right so you can see.

Now as a web designer/programmer myself, I understand that this is something that could happen to anyone. It's normal to use a stolen stock photo for a design mock up and then after the design is approved, you buy the real one. Sometimes people forget to buy the real one and this happens. The irony of this whole thing is the fact that FOX, along with every other major TV station, goes into a hissy whenever someone else "steals" their copyrighted material on places like youtube or other video sites.

I think because FOX gets so pissed about this kind of stuff, the stock photo company that they took this from (It looks like istockphoto.com) should sue them for a bunch of money. Stick it to the man!

You've been Zerolled!

by vipergtsrz at 08:16 AM Share your /facepalm story

While trying to sit down and enjoy some football this weekend, I couldn't help but notice that Toyota kept playing their stupid commerical "Saved By Zero". I swear, if I hear that stupid song one more time, I'll kill myself.

I think we should bring this agony upon the entire Internet so they can share in my pain as well. No more should we Rickroll people. We should Zeroll them!
